Verne Leroy Haller

Verne Leroy Haller, 89 of Fillmore passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 8, 2020. Verne was born on January 2, 1931 to Raymond & Bernice Haller in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a Ventura County resident for 50 years. 

Verne decided to move to California in 1945. After completing High School, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy in 1948. After a few years, he then enlisted with the U.S. Coastguard from 1950 to 1953 achieving a Certificate as a Divemaster. 

In 1960, he graduated from UCLA where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree as a Mechanical Engineer. In 1966 he was registered as a Professional Mechanical Engineer. He worked for the California State Water Resource where he worked on California Aqueduct projects. He later moved on to work for the Metropolitan Water District where he was Chief Operation Manager of maintenance, senior engineer. He had several hundred employees, his own plane and pilot to fly him to various pumping plants and power generation sites. 

After retiring at the age of 60 in 1991, he purchased a farm in Bardsdale, California where he enjoyed cultivating avocados. In 1998 he became a member and served on the board for the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor since 1960 and won numerous trophies racing his beloved sail boat, where he made many good friends along the way. Verne had a very fulfilling life!

Verne was a very honest, loving, generous husband, father and grandfather who did everything by the book! He was the “go to” guy when a problem or question was raised because he would solve, and at the same time, teach us many things. He was a very intelligent person. He will be very missed by all his family & friends.

Verne is survived by his wife; Beverly Haller of 64 years. Sister; Jean (Angel) Haller, Son; Richard Haller, Grandkids; Heather, Rebeccah, Anna (Lander) Haller, Matt and Melissa Haller, 3 Great-grandsons and 1 Great-granddaughter. 

He is preceeded in death by his parents; Raymond and Bernie Haller, his son; Gary Haller and Brother; Don Haller.

A visitation is planned for July 27, 2020 from 4pm to 8pm at the chapel of Camino del Sol Memorial Center, 200 North C Street, Oxnard, CA 93030.

A graveside service will take place on July 28, 2020 at 10am at Bardsdale Cemetery, 1698 South Sespe Street, Fillmore, CA 93015
