John Lewis Peters was born January 20, 1994 in Oxnard, California and passed away
September 21, 2022 in Corona, California. His passing came after many years of
struggling with addiction and mental health issues. Even though he suffered from
those, he should not be defined only by them. There was so much more to him.
He was caring, daring, charismatic, and athletic. His smile and his humor lit up a
room, and he is missed by many friends and family.
Those left behind after his passing are his father John Terrell Peters, mother Desiree
Marie Griffin, step-father Eric Griffin, step-mother Michelle Stiles; step-sister Shelby
Towe & brother-in-law Shaydon Towe; grandparents Keith Griffin & Sarah Griffin,
Ted Rabago & Patty Rabago, and Carol La Force; aunts and uncles Dennis La Force,
Catherine Demaree, Carl Demaree, Sherry Underwood, and Robert Thomas; cousins
Jerod Thomas, Michael Bennett, Matthew Underwood, Crystal Cleveland, Anthony
Silva, Therin Demaree, Easton Demaree, and Deven Gramanz; and niece Raelin Towe.
Those who preceded him in death are his grandparents Lewis La Force & Georgianna
La Force, and Barbara Stiles; aunts and uncles Craig Stiles, Norman Thomas, Donna
Bennett, and Lori Peters.
His caring could be seen in how he treated animals and friends. He was quick to
make friends and if he knew you for ten minutes he might consider you almost as
good a friend as someone he knew for ten years. You could see his daring in his BMX
riding, dirt bike riding, or that time he did a quick “streak” around the dock by the
moonlight at Lake Shasta. He did enjoy camping and trips to Disneyland with family
and friends. He was charismatic and loved to make people laugh and smile. When
he laughed it sounded as if it bubbled out of him. He wasn’t always confident, but he
tried to do things that gave himself a sense of pride. In elementary years he took
self-defense classes and after his first meet he was heard saying that was “the best
day ever”. He went to school in Ventura, California, graduating from Buena High. He
was a graduate of Grizzly Youth Academy, Class 25 in San Luis Obispo (Go
Wolverines!) He also attended Ventura College. After high school he worked in the
oil field industry as a painter for DLG Coatings and later for moving companies in Los
Angeles.
A celebration of his life is planned for Nov. 20, 2022 at 1:00 in Arroyo Verde Park, Ventura, California. Please join us to remember and celebrate him. If you like, donations can be sent
to the Salvation Army, National Alliance on Mental Illness or NA.
