William Wierling Obituary

William “Bill” Joseph Wierling, Jr., 57, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home in Port Hueneme, California on June 11, 2024.

Born in Buffalo, NY to William Joseph Wierling, Sr. and Maureen Vale Keefe, Bill was the oldest of three siblings. Bill grew-up in Weymouth, Massachusetts, a 1985 graduate of Weymouth North High School, furthering his education at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC), CLC-Somerville, MA and Pierce College, Woodland Hills, CA.

After completing his studies in Massachusetts, Bill bravely packed his belongings and moved to California where he worked as a Software QA Engineer at Medtronic for over 20 years.  Bill quickly made a life for himself in California, purchasing his own condo, often hosting “meetups” for wine tastings, movies, hiking and other adventures. Bill was always a gracious host, making all feel welcome, opening his home to friends, who like him, were far away from home; Bill’s meetup community quickly became his family away from home.

Bill was an accomplished musician, with a love for the electric guitar which he taught himself at a young age and enthusiastically pursued for the rest of his life.  He loved to experiment with different sounds and was influenced by guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi and bands Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, Van Halen, and many others.  He had also played lead guitarist in a local band Hammerback out of Ventura, CA.  Bill enjoyed cooking, talking politics and being physically active, whether it was going to the gym, or a good hike or bike ride in Ojai, he was always up for an adventure.

Bill is survived by his mother, Maureen Vale Keefe, her husband and Bill’s stepfather, Thomas Keefe of Rockland, MA, his father, William Joseph Wierling, Sr. of Buffalo, NY, his brother Robert “Bob” Wierling and his wife Beth of Franklin, MA, his sister, Jennifer Mailhiot of Rockland, MA, his beloved nieces, Jane, Allison and Carrie Mailhiot, his stepbrothers, stepsister, and their children, Tom Keefe and his wife Kathy of Weymouth, MA, Kathleen Arieta and her husband Rich of Kingston, MA. Jim Keefe and his wife Karen of Plymouth, MA, John Henry Keefe and his wife Julie of Raynham, MA, and many dearly loved aunts, uncles, and cousins both in Massachusetts and Buffalo, NY.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Massachusetts at a future date and time.
